40-years of service makes the Credit Union’s CEO its most experienced employee.

Passion, dedication, and adaptability are just three of the many strengths that Matt has exemplified throughout his remarkable 40-year career at the Credit Union.

Matt is passionately focused on the member experience, influencing all operational areas to continuously seek opportunities to improve and innovate. Matt has facilitated many member service improvements, including increased loan approvals, implementation of modern e-banking services, and expanded call center hours, among others. Mark Rabinowitz, Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer of NGFCU says, “Matt is unparalleled in his relentless focus on member service. If the definition of empathy is to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, Matt has run a marathon in our members’ shoes. His impressive career with the credit union has done wonders for the many members we serve.”

The value of his dedication over the last 4 decades cannot be overstated. Throughout that time, Matt has gained unparalleled hands-on experience in virtually all NGFCU operations, including prior roles in Information Technology and Lending, and most recently serving as Chief Operations Officer. Because of his in-depth knowledge of the credit union’s operations and systems, and hands-on support to the teams, he has generated countless efficiency improvements, implemented modern automation and technology solutions, and his overall leadership style can best be described as highly ethical, respectful, and inspirational.  He works hard to build a culture of trust and accountability.

NGFCU’s Chief Financial Officer, Joseph DeMichele shares these thoughts about Matt.  “Being with one institution for 40 years speaks for itself. To do it with the drive and dedication that Matt has shown to NGFCU is truly impressive. In my time at the credit union, I’ve found Matt to be a leader that is always willing to consider all viewpoints and make well measured, thoughtful decisions. He listens, asks smart questions, considers different opinions and inevitably does the right thing. So many times, I’ve gone into a situation ready to make an overly emotional decision only to have Matt help me make a more thought out, better one. And he keeps it light, so it’s always an enjoyable experience to come to work.”

Matthew is just the fifth CEO since the Credit Union’s inception in 1946 and possesses the adaptability and results-oriented mindset that leads a credit union like NGFCU to success. When Matthew became NGFCU’s President/CEO on April 1, 2016, the Credit Union had 18 branches. Today, the count is 28, which is a 56% increase in just 6 years. Asset growth during Matthew’s 6-year CEO tenure has more than doubled that of the 6-years prior to him leading NGFCU.

Heather Crofford, President of the NGFCU Board of Directors reflects, “Matt’s knowledge and understanding of the credit union industry is profound. He truly understands how the industry works and what our credit union needs to do for success. He is passionate about creating the member experience, knowing that member service is key to our growth and member community. Matt’s knowledge and passion have been a driving force behind our credit union for many years now!”

Matthew’s service to Northrop Grumman Federal Credit Union, for 40 years and counting, is undoubtedly cause for the Credit Union’s success today and well into the future. Congratulations, Matthew, on this milestone and rare achievement! Thank you for your dedicated service and commitment to the mission of Northrop Grumman Federal Credit Union.
